Bonsai . . . now for something completely different!
This is a real first for us. Since I was a small child I was always intrigued by the art of Bonsai - the perfect marriage of the horticultural arts and the fine arts.
My career lead me into fine arts, but I have always held this burning interest in Japanese culture, and more specifically the art of Bonsai. I have a pretty old collection of my own - largely inspired by the bonsai masters that I met on my various trips to the Omiya bonsai village in Japan. A couple of mine . . .
Recently I met bonsai master Kanta Nakajima in my studio. He was interested in my art - and I was interested in his - so . . . we have decided to collaborate and build a workshop together.
These are a couple of Kantos trees . . . not the bonsai that you might see at the local mall, are they?
This will be a one day event and everthing will be included . . . a tree for you to work on, bonsai pots, a complete kit of specialty bonsai tools in a leather case, wire and substrates. All of these things will be yours to take home at the end of the day.
Kanta will be demostrating a variety of techniques and will demonstrate the re-styling and refining of a mature specimen from his collection. Throughout the day he will assist you in the styling and creation of your own bonsai.
If you have ever had an interest in bonsai and horticultural arts generally, this is a very rare opportunity to work with a true master of this ancient art.
As his english is limited, Kanta will be working with an interpreter throughout the day.
This is an expensive workshop to run, and as such will cost a little more than many of the workshops that we have run in the past.
The total cost for the day will be $280.
There will be an array of museum quality, mature (50 years+) trees on dispay in the studio, and of course a number of somewhat younger specimens for you to work on and take home with you.
Please let me know at your earliest convenience if this is a workshop that you would be interested in. You can call the studio at (604)250-5562, or email denecroft@gmail.com, or use this link https://www.denecroft.com/contact-dene-croft
We will be limiting the number of participants to 10
